Rhododendrons & Azaleas

It is difficult to know where to start with rhododendrons and azaleas if you are not an expert. There are literally hundreds of varieties in all sizes. Most are evergreen and available in practically every flower colour except blue. Many are bi-coloured. Flowers come in many different shapes and they usually bloom in the spring. Once exception is a variety called Christmas Cheer which flowers a bit earlier.

At TENDERCARE we have some very large rhododendrons that are ideal for making an instant impact if you are creating a garden from scratch. Some of these are over six feet tall and wide, which is very useful if you are a gardener in a hurry! Some have even been clipped and formed into topiary trees

Similarly, there is a wide range of dwarf rhododendrons including the Japanese Yakushimanums which reach a height of just one meter after 15 years.

Rhododendrons are very easy to grow and look particularly striking when planted in groups. Another key benefits is that they are among a limited variety of plants that will thrive on acid soils.

Azaleas come in two different types – evergreens and deciduous and as single specimens or in containers. Colours range from whites to golds, oranges to pinks. They flower between late spring and early summer. Attractive examples are the Knap Hill varieties which are the largest and brightest in this group of plants.

TENDERCARE’s range of Azaleas stand between one and two meters high.
