Acoustic Fencing

Tendercare Nurseries is the UK supplier and installer for Kokosystems’ range of acoustic barrier solutions.

Increasingly specified by planning authorities, engineers and architects the products provide highly effective noise absorption and insulation, and are aesthetically pleasing for all situations, both commercial and domestic.

Kokowall Noise Barrier with coir covered poles on each side is the most popular choice where significant noise pollution is an issue, such as along major roads or where industrial sites run adjacent to housing developments.

This year Tendercare installed over 525m of Kokowall screen for Allenbuild at the ex-MOD site in Bordon, Hampshire, to separate the new housing development from a major relief road. 2.4m high barriers are installed on top of newly formed bunds finished 1.2m higher than the adjacent road to ensure maximum acoustic protection.

An added complexity to the installation came in the form of a water culvert running through the woodland adjacent to the development. The banks surrounding the culvert fall steeply and to accommodate this the Kokowall barrier increased in height to 6m, requiring cranes and telehandlers to support the installation works.

Tendercare also planted these bunds with semi-mature trees to provide additional noise filtering. The panels themselves are planted on each side with ivy that will eventually form an attractive, dense green wall with the added environmental benefits of providing food and habitats for birds, insects and small mammals.

Technical properties

  • Sound absorption EN1793-1: Dla = 7dB (a) cat. A2
